The Perfect Storm
For a long time, I have felt like I need the perfect set of circumstances in order to pray “the right way.” Lately, God is helping me connect with Him in a consistent way to make prayer a regular part of my day.
The New Testament in 30 Days
In September of 2020, in response to what I felt was the Lord’s leading, I set out to read the entire Bible by the end of the year. I finished the New Testament today, December 16. Much of my experience confirmed what I expected but breathed new life on the Word of God, and some of my experiences were surprising. In this post, I will draw conclusions from my New Testament reading while looking back to those from the Old Testament.
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
You know the feeling. Alone in the middle of a crowd of people. Isolated in the days of hyper-connectivity. We know we were made for a relationship with God, created to be with another and yet everyone feels so disconnected. We cry out to God asking for a miracle - for a tangible reminder that He’s near. But what if what you’re praying for, singing about, and waiting for was right in front of you, or right beside you the whole time?
The Sword and the Shovel
If I asked, do you feel like you’ve been under attack recently, I know so many people who would answer with a resounding “YES.” It doesn’t take long to identify that our enemy is very real and very cunning. But we have access to something that is so powerful it makes the demons shutter.
The Old Testament in 60 Days
On September 3, 2020, I heard the Lord clearly say: Read the whole Bible between now and the end of the year. If you think pastors usually read at a clip similar to reading through the entire Old Testament in approximately 60 days, I’ll speak for myself and just say - not this pastor. Here’s what God showed me in the Old Testament during this time.
Injustice & My Voice
Pastor Ben shares his thoughts and what Scripture has to say about racial reconciliation and the Christian’s role in it.
How to FEEL (and COVID-19)
There are some things that God will not take you around, but He will take you through. It is during those times that your response is not to figure it out, make all the necessary plans, or develop an expert opinion. God’s grace for you is to see, just as the disciples saw, that Jesus is coming.
What the Avengers Teaches us about Missions
The “Avengers: Endgame” is a a cultural phenomenon. But there is a threat greater than Thanos. He had only a 50% mortality rate; sin has a perfect 100%. It’s time to assemble and take missions seriously.
Jesus, Whole 30, and the new iPhone
As Apple announces their latest iPhones, we have to ask the question- is our relationship with our phones healthy? Smartphones are neither good nor bad on their own, but what about the ways we all use them? As Christians, our goal should be to use our phones to maximize human flourishing and draw us closer to God. But for most of us, the opposite might be true.
Fasting: What and Why?
Fasting is not about what we’re giving up. It’s about what we’re gaining that is greater than what we could get if we didn’t give something up. It’s motivated by deep desire for God. It’s the intense pursuit of God - all about ingesting the Word of God, the presence of God, and the blessings of God.
What I’ve Learned as the “Church Media Guy”
Two years ago, I joined the Arrowhead team full-time as the Creative Director. Here’s what I learned.
The final 5%
For a long time, I didn't understand the difference between something I would make and the better work of someone with the same experience and equipment as me. The secret is the final 5%. Invest yourself into your craft 100% - no less. Give it everything you can. Pour into it until there is nothing more you can do.
