2023 21 days of prayer: day 6
We may all be reading through the Bible plan in different spots or with different focus. Each column offers a different pace through books of the Bible. If you’ve tracked with Genesis thus far, you’ve no doubt seen a disturbing trend. Very imperfect people, who just seem to be ever-so-slightly nicer than those around them seem to get picked by God to do wildly important things. It seems vaguely familiar to life around me in 2023, but that’s not the point.
There’s a pattern I notice: Vision / Covenant / Compromise.
God is gracious to reveal Himself and his plan to Abraham, Isaac, and then Jacob. They have powerful experiences with the Lord and his presence, and He repeats to them that their descendants will be numerous and that One will save. They follow. Temporarily. Then, they commit some egregious sin! Over and over these men give their wives to ungodly kings just to save their own tails, among other sins.
If you’re thinking your 21 days are going to shape you into a glowing version of yourself, they might! But, you’ll probably still fall. Go ahead and get comfortable with that, NOT to give yourself and excuse to do so. Quite the opposite, in fact. Do it so you can marvel at the God of grace who knows you and who doesn’t depend on you for his purposes.
