Prayer for Rhythms Journal - June 2024
Keeping prayer fresh is a key to keeping prayer going. Our distracted age often means we need a new routine every so often. Such is life in our day, and so here are a few ideas.
Pay close attention especially to Piper’s thoughts on “concentric circles” and take some time to design your own, working your way from the core relationships and requests outward as far as you’d like to include extended family, friends, our church, and missions.
The article linked here is a simple explanation written by someone else, but Miller spells out a simple method for praying for various people in his book A Praying Life (I highly recommend!). Each card includes requests and a verse you can use to pray for each person. You can make your own 3x5 card or use the app designed for this purpose by searching “A Praying Life” in the Apple App Store or on Google Play.
Paul Miller suggests having, 4–10 family cards (one for each person), 1–3 people-in-suffering cards, a couple of friends cards, 1 non-Christian card, 1 church’s leadership card, 1 small-group card, 1 missionary, ministries card, 1–3 world- or cultural-issues cards, 3 work cards, 1 co-worker card, 3–5 repentance cards (things I need to repent of), and 3–5 hope or big-dream cards.
